Properly Designing Reverse Osmosis Systems

Reverse Osmosis comes in many forms. Most are familiar as it relates to either drinking water in your home, or in the office break room where it generally pertains to a small system. These small systems typically use city or well water pressure to purify your water into a tank that can then feed your ice maker, chilled water dispenser, and a separate faucet at your kitchen for drinking, cooking, and watering plants.

In a commercial setting, Reverse Osmosis systems are generally much larger and are built to perform very specific purification functions based on your exact needs.

Below you will find the technical definitions of Reverse Osmosis as they relate to medium to large size systems (specifically 2-200 GPM systems in Industrial, Medical, or Pharmaceutical applications).

Skids (which Flier’s will custom build based on your required footprint) house the pump portion of the system. This drives pressure across a thin film composite membrane that removes 90.00-99.98% of the raw water’s total dissolved solids, along with many other contaminants like heavy metals and arsenic.

NOTE: to size a system properly, one must take into account continuous and peak gallons-per-minute, gallons-per-day, and gallons-per-week along with performing a comprehensive raw water study. This is where it benefits having an experienced Purified Water Application Specialist. Flier’s has seen countless mistakes in the proper sizing of systems. Resolving these sizing issues has alleviated countless unnecessary headaches for our customers over the years.

Call or email Flier’s today, we will take the guesswork out of your application and put you on a path to peak performance right away.

There are many Reverse Osmosis applications such as Lab Water, Greenhouses, and Food Preparation. Along with the obvious Medical, Kidney Dialysis, applications also include Industrial Paint Lines, Coolant Mixing, Humidifier Feed, Battery Filling, and Breweries & Distilleries. These applications are expanding every day.
